Dean Radin is a scientific psychic researcher who has been working in the field for many years.

His book, The Conscious Universe: The Scientific Truth of Psychic Phenomena, is an excellent work on the current state of scientific psychic research.

The Conscious Universe is a superb overview of what is possible and what has been discovered so far, backed by solid research and clearly explained.  I highly recommend this book and it’s available via Amazon for a very affordable price:

The good news is psi – psi is short for psychic phenomena – is real.  The bad news is that no one is psychic in the way that movies, fiction, or ‘psychic consultants’ advertise themselves to be.  Yet.

One day, however, psychic abilities may become more and more pronounced as we find out more about them.

I will be covering this subject in more detail on this blog later on.  Psychic abilities are the key part of a much larger story involving evolution, humanity, and the esoteric forces that shape history.

I often surf through the free radio offerings on iTunes.

I recently found the station ASTRAL under the ‘Ambient’ tab and, yes, it does the job.  It’s very relaxing, so much so it makes me sleepy.  Recommended for when you are feeling stressed and need to relax or want to wind down to go to sleep.

Another good station for more productive mental work is one of the Baroque music stations under the ‘Classical’ tab.  I recommend Barock music (funny spelling, but that’s what they call it).  They just cycle the same 12 songs or so but they are good songs.  Baroque music leads me to a pleasant and clear-headed state of mind.  Good for reading and writing and studying.

Continuing with our look at art we will be exploring some different aesthetics and both their influences and well as their usefulness for your guided imagery.

These two pieces are from an artist I am largely unfamiliar with.  His name is Dragos Kalajic, also known as Drago.

His work is interesting, especially as it applies to guided imagery and the realms of mind.  Note first the previous piece by Luke Brown, which has a distinctly psychedelic, tryptamine-esque flavor reminiscent of experiences on psychedelic mushrooms, ayahuasca, or other forms of DMT.

Drago, by strong contrast, has a mythic quality, more reminiscent of Olympian astral planes.  Were I to compare and contrast it with psychedelic states of mind I would describe Drago’s work as more like LSD and perhaps some admixture with strong and well-refined hashish or honey oil.   But of course these are only analogies…

Let us examine two of Drago’s pieces.  I am sure they will give you many ideas for your own guided imagery explorations!

This clearly incorporates aspects of Norse mythology.  The many legged horse was Sleipnir, the steed of Odin, who used it to ride about the world at extreme speeds.

Interestingly for students of guided imagery, Sleipner was a shamanic transport of sorts, able to travel not just around the world but also into the underworld as well as through the heavens.  This is a classic motif for astral travel and I think the art shows this quite well.  Note, too, the portal of half-radiant light and the enthusiasm of the horse to get moving through the multiverse.

Here is another piece.

Again, excellent imagery for guided imagery and journeys to mental or Astral planes.  The yellow as a field of color, as a landscape or ground one can walk upon; the interesting floating geometric shapes; the eagle as a shamanic guardian animal as well as potential soul representation as it goes flying; and the winged headband all show shamanic and transcendental powers.

Enjoy these images and use them to evoke your own guided imagery to the higher and more visionary planes!

Now this is cool:  this is visionary, psychedelic, multi-dimensional art.  It’s by Luke Brown and has some overlap stylistically with the art of Alex Grey.

You can buy Luke Brown’s work through his website www.spectraleyes.com.  This is well worth checking out and supporting!

Check out this piece of art:

So deeply visionary and mystical.  Fantastic!

Guided imagery exercises are great to have on hand whether in a book or on audio recordings.

However there are only a small number of truly exceptional books on the deeper aspects of guided imagery.

In my view a truly excellent book on guided imagery exercises should have the following qualities:

  • It has an interesting writing style, evoking images and stories in my mind’s eye just by reading it
  • It is well researched
  • It provides clear directions
  • It has a novel approach in some way, elaborating and deepening one’s guided imagery journeys

The one book I know of that fits these criteria with many excellent guided imagery exercises is :

The Search For the Beloved

The Search for the Beloved

The Search For the Beloved by Jean Houston

Jean Houston is a well known human potentials researcher and she is at her best in this book.

The writing is lyrical and poetic and evocative. She breaks new ground by suggesting the incorporation of mythology into guided imagery exercises, and she explains why myth and ritual recruit more of the brain and body than just guided imagery alone.

Her stories about mythology, especially if you like the stories of the old gods and myths and the ways humans thought and lived in ancient history, are compelling and worth reading just on their own.

Her tone is helpful and friendly, and her work is grounded in solid research.

There is a great game you can play with a friend or partner to stimulate your imagination to new heights as well.

The Search For the Beloved is highly recommended to stimulate your mind and senses, and among the very best guided imagery exercises out there.
