I am going to reveal the single greatest mind exercise ever, the one written about for thousands of years as the key to meditation, enlightenment, and even psychic powers.

This will probably seem entirely too simple.  Nonetheless it is true that this is it.

The key, the secret exercise, is called one-pointed concentration.

In the ancient Yoga sutras one-pointed concentration was written about as the key to achieving relaxation, siddhis (psychic powers), and enlightenment.  Each step along the way leads to the next:  concentration-meditation-samadhi (enlightenment).

Here is how you do it:

First, focus on one thing.  This can really be anything but often people choose a flower, a symbol such as a black circle on a white background, a color such as violet or yellow, or a candle flame.

Keep focusing on it for awhile.  Then close your eyes and hold your attention on it.

At first you will focus and everything will be fine… then you’ll suddenly snap to attention realizing your mind has shot off in another direction altogether, wandering for the last 3 minutes.

Bring your attention back to the object of your attention.  And again hold it there.

Again your mind will wander.

Bring it back.

This is the training.  Train yourself to again and again bring your mind back.

Realistically, just like with sports training you won’t achieve this right away.

Set a timer and start with only a few minutes a day.  Gradually increase the time you spend doing this each day.

Over time you can increase the time you spend on this practice, which will soon lead to a meditative state.

Of course I am making this sound so easy.  Most people will quit in just a few days.

But if you stick with it you will find yourself becoming more and more aware of how your attention is not under your control.  It wanders like a wild, untrained horse.

Train it, have patience, allow it to do what it must (you won’t have any choice anyway), and keep bringing it back.

Over time you will realize you can control your attention. As you control your attention in this specific way you will find you will notice things.

It may seem minor at first but over time your abilities will grow.  You will find you are not plagued by endless, pointless thoughts and worries.

Your body will release beneficial hormones, your mind will clear, and you will be following in what the Yoga sutras say awakens intuitions and insights and psychic powers and enlightenment.

I know, it sounds so simple.  But it is one of the hardest things to do.

So that’s it.   Too easy?  Try it.  It’s all you need to know to become enlightened.

Guided Imagery is a tool for relaxation and using your imagination.

Because I believe in fate and destiny you will not likely find me selling anything here that promotes the view that we can change our lives to make them anything they want to be.  Tony Robbins, you belong in the back of the class where you won’t distract everyone with your constant talking!

However I do believe we should use what we can to make our lives here more enjoyable.  One of the sad facts of our time is that much of modern entertainment doesn’t really recruit our imagination.  So much is provided with movies and special effects and high-resolution video games that it overwhelms our own imaginative powers.

Yet we  all have a rich inner world.  Exploring our imagination in a relaxed state is a great way for us to get to know ourselves better. Also, exploring our inner realms is a great way to relax.

Who doesn’t enjoy a great book taking us away to a favorite fantasy? Or a great radio program or talking book?

A properly written and structured guided imagery script can be used to explore your own inner world, not just an author’s creation.

My recently created guided imagery script offers a pleasant and relaxing journey into your imagination of your ideal future.  You will be able to use it to:

  • expand your connection to your inner world
  • explore what is the most enjoyable future for yourself
  • gain more self-knowledge
  • achieve a state of relaxation

You may also get some ideas about how to move a bit closer to your ideal future.

You will begin by entering a creative and receptive state of mind and then activate your powers  imagination. Then you will journey into your future to discover what you most desire to experience in your life.

This approach will help you activate your imagination and become more relaxed.  You may also find you will be able to create solutions to get to your ideal future quickly and creatively.

You can find this guided imagery script for exploring your ideal future here:

To a more relaxed and creative life!

We live in two worlds.  We live in the world of reality and we live in the world of our minds.

There is not much you can do about reality.  We can do some things, change little bits and pieces here and there.

By contrast, in our minds we are set free.  We can be or do anything we want.

The only limit is our imagination.  Fortunately, through practices like guided imagery, we can increase our powers of imagination.  We can expand beyond our previous limits.

Take a moment to imagine one thing you would like to be a year from now.  Make it a feeling of some kind… happiness… inner peace… abundance…

Imagine what that would be like a year from now… feel it in as much intensity as you can…

Images may come into your mind as you focus on that feeling….

What do you hear as you experience that very desirable feeling…  What do you feel… What are you seeing…

Now I want you to realize something very important…

This is very important to know….  know that as you are feeling those feelings in the future…

You are also feeling them right now.

Yes… you are feeling them now…

Allow yourself to feel them now for whatever amount of time is comfortable for you…

When you are ready come back to the regular world…

Remembering the feelings you created for yourself…

Remember how something you thought was in the imagined future was actually happening right now…

You experienced the two worlds of imagination and reality, overlapping.  They became as one.

In the future you may realize your imagination can help you experience and create what you desire now in this reality…

… as you live and play within our two worlds, the worlds of imagination and reality.

Take a moment…

You know all those thoughts you’re thinking…

Let them go for a moment…

Just let them go…

Any tension and worries…. let them go as well…

Notice your body… how are you feeling….

And breathe…. notice your breathing…

Let your shoulders relax…. and your neck…  feel the tension draining out of you…

You’re breathing… and right now there is just right now…

You in your body…  Aware and alive…. Breathing…

Take a moment to rest…

….

….

That’s all you need to do ….

All you need is to take this moment to relax… and rest…

And breathe… be aware…

And when you are ready… or when you need to…

Come back to reality…. bring your feeling of relaxing with you…

You are recharged now….  ready to resume your day.

Think about your moment of rest and relaxation as you go about your day.

It’s important when doing guided imagery or visualization to take breaks and observe yourself.

Watch how things are unfolding for you, in your life and in your feeling of well-being.  Is your guided imagery working for you?

Like with many things it is easy to get lost in chasing some goal and lose sight of how you are feeling, whether you are getting what you want, and what you might be doing right or wrong.

Focus is essential for short times.  Like anything, too much of any one act will cause problems.

Guided imagery is a form of focus, however unlike most other activities it should also be relaxing.

The cycle of focusing and then relaxing is an important one to learn.  I advise that if you have to choose between focus and relaxing you choose relaxing.

Short periods of focus, concentration, or imagination and creativity are best offset with generous amounts of relaxation and contemplation of results.

To get started on learning this cycles sign up for the free guided imagery series on this site!
